Fred's - The history
Fred's story has started back in 1947, when Paul Baddour and his two brothers; sons of Lebanese immigrants, opened their first store.
Coldwater, Mississipi, was the first store location, quickly followed by more shops in small towns like Stamps, Luka or Arkansas. At the beginning, the shops were called Good Luck, but after swift expansion, the brothers changed the company name to Fred's, which was also one of the brother's name.
By 1953 there were 53 well prospering stores under Fred's banner.
Quick expansion led to great results, unfortunately as the competition on the market was growing, in 2008 the company had to close 50 of their stores, due to under-performance. It did not stop Fred's development as it also operates two more chains: Getwell Drug & Dollar and Yazoo Trading Company.
Currently, Fred's operates in 15 states in the Southeastern United States with more than 600 general discount merchandise stores.
