The long-lasting push to eliminate single-use plastic had to give way to safety at this difficult times. Some stores may even not allow you inside with a reusable bag. And if they do, make sure it's clean, for your own sake.

Many states and cities have been building strategies to phase out single-use plastic for years now. Those plans had to be put on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic and no wonder at all: safety has to come first.

In these exceptional circumstances you may want to reconsider taking your reusable bag with you when shopping. In fact, some parts of the country have banned all reusable bags outright, with Illinois, New Hampshire and the Bay Area counties in California being among them.
